Fifty Years Ago We Would Have Thought This Magic

Because we numbered only fifteen, communicating with each other was easy when we were in high school.  We could talk as we walked the halls between classes or ate lunch in the cafeteria (except for Sandy, who was allowed to go home for lunch), whisper across the aisle in study hall, or pass notes in class.

Fifty years later finds us separated by distance, but technology makes communicating almost as easy as it was in 1961.

I suggested to Phil that we set up a team blog to which we all can post at any time. He replied that it seemed like a good idea and told me to set it up.  (It's easy to see that he is experienced in delegating responsibility!) Mary would probably have been a better choice for doing this as she has a knack for technology, but Google has made things simple, so I think I can get this going. The end result will be a blog that only we can use; the general public will not see our postings.  The only stipulation is that each of us must have a Google account, which is also free. (Of course, you may retain any existing e-mail account you have from another provider.)

I will enter the e-mail addresses Phil included in his letter in order to identify team members who will have access to the blog.  Remember, you don't need to have a computer in your home to have an e-mail address; you can use a computer at your local library or in other locations.  I know several people who do so.

  3. I'm glad that the site is working, as I have not set up a blog on my own before. The gurus at Google have made things quite easy.

  4. This is the first time that I have done anything like this. I'm anxious to see if I can get back into this.

  5. Hi Karen,
I hope we can make this work as it will be a great way to reach everyone quickly.
We have been in a deep freeze here for close to two weeks, but the forecast is for a week of warm weather now. Maybe that groundhog was right!
How is everything with you? So far, we have escaped the flu and even colds. Perhaps it has simply been too cold for viruses to float about.

  6. Everyone,
Remember, this is a blog. When you want to say something more substantial than a short comment, simply click on "New Post" on the right side of the blue line and you will get a screen on which you can type as long an entry as you like. You have most of the same options you would have when developing a document in Word. You can preview the post, then publish it. Posting will be a great way to tell us what you did on your around-the-world cruise, how you made your first million, the cute things your dog does, etc.
I am granting everyone administrator status. I think that means that you will get a gmail notification every time someone contributes a comment or a post.

  7. Hi all
I guess I am in the loop now. Looking forward to seeing everyone in June. First on blog for me also. Wanting to go south for rest of winter in motor home. Mom is in nursing home and not good so its hard to leave.Jackie also is not well so has been a challenging winter. But spring is just around the corner and we both are looking forward to some camping and traveling. I am supposed to be semi-retired from the farm but it does not always work out that way in season. My corvette is lonely. My boat is lonely.

  8. Great to hear from you, Wayne. Enjoy your time in the South. We will be going to Savannah next week for a Civil War meeting and hope the weather will be much warmer there. Don belongs to a car club here in Carroll; he has a Chevy SSR. You can see a picture of it on the club website www.rpm-club.org. Why don't you buy it to keep your Corvette company?

Thanks to Sandy, Phil and Pat for their interest in getting us all together. Can't believe it has been fifty years, but my oldest son will be 49 this summer, sooooooooo. He will have his 30th class reunion this year.
Time is flying by fast...see you soon.

  11. A DMR obiturary said Mary LaValleur Munger, age 92, and a graduate of the Greenville, Iowa High School died in Florida. As Greenville and Rossie were merged all the time we were in school, this information made me feel young. How about you?
